Eager to start the day I arrived an hour too early and subsequently dragged my assistant out of bed prematurely, too. It gave me time to relax and enjoy the Winchester Mansions Cappuccino in their quaint quart yard. Tiro (the photographic assistant) and I had a chat about photography, it isn’t often I get a chance to think about how the world has conspired to get me here. The hour flew by and then it was time to meet Vincent – the model. He was larger than life, funny, charming and oh-so-gracious. The shoot’s focus was on the different ways of wearing a white shirt. Alexis tired to find one from the dozen or so that would fit him perfectly. A white shirt isn’t just a white shirt, they were similar-but-different with gorgeous styled cuts and design details. Fashion is not ordinary.
We placed reserve signs on most of the tables outside to make sure the shot was clear of people. The light was soft and I overexposed it a touch. The indoor shots were a lot moodier with a more evening feel. On the last set-up Vincent was trapped into an intimate corner with the lens right up close. He became more and more ridiculously funny, pulling faces and creating general mayhem. Silliness can be contagious and sometimes encouraged – you can’t be too serious as long you get perfection, and we did!
